If you install an air source heat pump you can now you can take advantage of the £5000 grant. The UK government is offering grants to households to remove their gas system for a heat pump setup.

The government is required to hit net zero emissions by 2050 and is making huge steps to achieve its target.

New built homes have to install heat pumps and by 2025 all homes with oil boilers MUST install heat pumps. This will make gas and oil boiler installations illegal to install from 2035 onwards across the UK.

Can all homes benefit from air source heat pumps?

Unfortunately no as some smaller properties might not be suitable. There are many factors and calculations needed to determine if your home is suitable to install an air source heat pump.

Electric supply is generally not a problem as most properties with single-phase electrics will be eligible for a heat pump up to 19kw.

A heat loss survey will be required before we can determine.

  1. What size heat pump your home will need
  2. Whether you can have one at all

Generally, all detached or semi-detached homes will be able to benefit from an air source heat pump.

Some terraced houses will be able to have them installed but this is dependent on the results of the survey.

How long do heat pumps last?

Heat pumps have a much longer life span than boilers due to the simplicity of the system. They have fewer components so less maintenance is required.

Modern heat pumps will last you anywhere between 20-30 years and more if serviced annually.

Gas boilers have an average lifespan of between 10-15 years meaning a heat pump will last you twice as long.
